Sharon Springs Athletic Association

PRESIDENT'S NOTE

Sharon Springs Families,

As the holiday season hits full swing the 2016 spring baseball and softball season is quickly approaching. The 2015 season was another fantastic one with well over 1,000 boys and girls participating on over 100 baseball and softball teams.

The 2015 season marked significant changes in the leadership at the park. First, Taylor Davis, our long time Athletic Coordinator for Sharon Springs and Joint Venture left Forsyth County Parks and Rec. Barry Brooks took over the reins and has been a welcome addition to the team and has been very supportive of SSAA. SSAA saw its own changes with long time executive board members, Jeff Stephens and Joe Brown, “retiring” from SSAA. Their tireless commitment to SSAA over the years has made us the success that we are today. They will all truly be missed.

Our families continue to be supportive of our parks. Braves Night continues to be a successful fundraiser for our park. Raising an average in excess of $20,000 per year which helps in enabling us to keep registration fees level for another year.We continue to work to improve the experience at our park. The batting cage nets in all the cages have been replaced with extra money being put towards cabling to increase the life of the nets by limiting contact with the chain-link fencing. We also made a significant investment in infield dirt and conditioner last year. This investment was followed up by multiple meetings with FCPRD and county commissioners, including Brian Tam, to ensure our investment was not a band-aid and that proper field maintenance was necessary to maintain field conditions. FCPRD was responsive and field conditions are better and will continue to get better over the winter. These investments have totaled more than $50,000 with the county contributing additional funds for new equipment and additional field materials.

All of these improvements make the experience much more enjoyable for all of us and they couldn’t be accomplished without your incredible fundraising support!

As we move into registration for 2016, SSAA is looking into ways to enhance the program by partner with local businesses to offer on-field and off-field instruction at significantly discounted rates. We are also utilizing these same businesses to provide support to our coaches, both in rec and travel programs. Look for emails in later December or January for further details.

Every successful program requires cooperation from families, board leadership, county employees and elected officials and we are incredibly thankful for all that you do to make Sharon Springs a great park.

Here’s to continued success of our program.
